Starting a business will be one of the hardest — and most rewarding — things you’ve ever done. You’ll be pushed and stretched, but if you stick with it, it will be the best decision you ever made. If you’re doubting yourself or your abilities — STOP. Anyone can do it, but you must believe you can do it. I’m going to give you 4 tips to increase your self-confidence AND build your business faster. It’s a win-win!

In order to have a successful business, you have to believe in yourself. You gotta believe you can make it happen because there will be times no one else believes it. When your friends and family are being skeptical, you have to have an inner belief in yourself and your business. If you increase your self confidence, your chances of business success go way up!

Napoleon Hill said, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve”. What if you find it hard to believe that you can run a successful 6-figure or 7-figure business? Should you quit now and decide you can never be a #bossbabe?

Self confidence is a feeling to trust in one's abilities

Self-confidence is a feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities, and judgment. Even if you view yourself as someone with low self confidence, I bet you already do confident things.

  • Confident people do what they know is right, even if others make fun of them. Have you ever stuck to your convictions about politics, religion, business, or your family, even when the people around you criticized you for it?
  • Confident people are willing to take risks and go above and beyond what is expected of them. In your job, your family, or your workouts, do you go above and beyond? Do you put in extra time and effort to make things better?
  • Confident people admit their mistakes and learn from them.
  • Confident people don’t strut around, bragging when they achieve something. They are gracious achievers.

If you do these things, you’re self-confident!

4 Tips to Increase Your Self-Confidence

Here are 4 tips to increase your self-confidence, which will also boost your business-confidence. It takes time to develop, like a muscle, so work on it over the next month or two.

Reflect

Think about confident actions you’ve done in the past. Look back over your life at things you’ve achieved – getting a new job, becoming a mom, raising good children, being part of a team that completed a big project, finishing something that was hard, like a college degree, or achieving a goal you set for yourself.

Write these down to remind yourself of the amazing things you’ve accomplished so far. Hang the list by your desk and review it once a day or once a week.

Focus on your strengths

What will increase your self-confidence – doing things your good at or doing things you suck at? I firmly believe in focusing on your strengths and outsourcing your weaknesses. Pay attention to what you’re good at, what you enjoy, and what you could do for hours and lose track of time.

Make a list of your strengths. What would your friends and family say are your strengths? If you don’t know, ask them.

Get a book, like Strengths Finder, and take the online quiz. (Buy it new to get access to the quiz). Another good book is Now, Discover Your Strengths, which also includes a guide to find your strengths.

Spend your time and energy on what you’re good at and you’ll instantly feel more competent.

Start Small

I’ve tried setting gigantic goals and baby goals, and the small goals win every time. Yes, you should have a vision and a big “why” to keep you motivated and hustling. But plan your work in 90 day sections. That’s the long-term. Then break it down to weeks, days, and hours. What will you achieve TODAY?

If your baby-goal is reaching out to ONE person about your products for business, then start there. Don’t tell yourself you’re going to contact 20 people a day then feel discouraged and quit.

Set small targets for yourself THAT YOU CAN HIT. When you hit your baby-goals day after day, you will increase your self-confidence because you will be succeeding. You will be COMPETENT. After a couple weeks of achieving your baby-goal, you’ll be ready to up the goal.

What’s better — starting slowly and achieving or setting gigantic goals and quitting?

Manage your mind

Our brains can be crazy. They’re hard-wired to protect us, even from things that aren’t a threat, like talking to people or rejection. If you have to play a game to get yourself to produce, then do it. You know you have big goals. You know talking to one person a day won’t get you there. But you have to start there or your brain gets freaked out and quits.

Increase your self-confidence. Stay positive. Read motivational books. Visualize what you want. Say positive affirmations. Be the boss of your brain and don’t let it get carried away telling you that you can’t achieve your goals, that they’re too hard or scary.

You can achieve your goals. You can run a successful business, whether it’s big or small. I believe in you. You believe in you. Let’s do it!
