2020 was crazy. There was a lot of negativity on social media. It was stressful and a lot of people left Facebook and Instagram to escape the fighting and arguing.
The silver lining is that it won’t be hard to improve on that!
Here’s how to make sure your brand stands out in 2021 against the competition:
1. Be a bright light.
This sounds woo-woo, but hear me out.
The #1 thing you can do to build your brand, stand out against all the competition, and get more leads in 2021 is to be a bright light.
Imagine a pitch black night sky and all you can see is one star in the night sky.
- What do you notice when you look up?
- The dark sky?
- The stars that aren’t shining bright?
- Do you see all the other dark things in the sky or the skyline?
No! You notice the one star shining bright.
In 2021, stand out and be the bright light.
Lead people with your content, on social media, in your trainings, and when you connect with people.
Lead with positivity. Inspire people. Be authentic and sincere. Genuinely help people.
In 2020, many of us were negative. It was a hard year and some people got way off course.
It’s time to get back on track, back to being positive.
A study by Pew research in October of 2020 found that:
64% of Americans say social media has a mostly negative effect on the way things are going in the U.S. today.
Two-thirds of Americans think social media is negative and is not helping our country.
That gives you and me a huge opportunity to show up differently and stand out.
With all the negativity out there, you can do the opposite.
People will notice you for being positive, for NOT posting about politics or the news. People will notice you for not complaining and for being grateful, even during hard times.
Be like the sun and SHINE.
Create A Positive Association With Your Brand
Being the grateful, positive, helpful person on social media creates a positive association with your brand. Even if someone doesn’t do business with you now, they’ll never forget that you were the person that was positive on social media. They’ll never forget how you made them feel, how your posts stood out among all the negativity.
Your business friends will notice, and so will the other people in your life.
It’s so easy to stand out right now.
Don’t worry about all the competition on Facebook or Youtube. When you’re bringing positivity, encouragement and value to your audience they will follow you, appreciate you, and buy from you.
2. Be consistent to make sure your brand stands out in 2021
Consistency is king.
If you’re positive and encouraging but you only do it once a month, that’s not enough. People won’t remember you. People need to SEE you consistently on the platforms where you do business.
If you have a blog or podcast, or youtube channel, something with long-form content, you can post once a week. Do a video or a blog post once or twice a week. Pick any interval you want, but show up consistently.
Posting at least once a day on social media is the best. One to three times a day is ideal.
If you have a group, set a day and time to go live once a week, and show up there consistently.
Authenticity and Consistency Build Trust in Your Brand
Right now, people don’t trust big companies, the government, or the media. They’re making bad decisions.
Your audience is looking to individuals and personal brands to lead them. They are looking for personal brands to connect with, learn from, and buy from.
You can show up as your genuine self. You can show up with positivity and encouragement. People will eat it up and they will love you. People want to connect with people, not “businesses”.
Showing up consistently builds trust. People want to trust you. They want to believe in something right now. They want to believe you can help them, that you’re going to show up, make their day better, make their business better, and make their day better.
Show up for those people.
Those are the two things you can do this year to make sure your brand stands out. They sound simple — and they are — but don’t underestimate the power of this right now.
Social media is on fire. Online selling is on fire.
If you’re the one who shows up with positivity, authenticity, and value — you will win.
You’ll get more leads and more customers.
You’ll build a community of people who you love, customers who love you back, and want to be a part of what you’re doing. It won’t be a bunch of random leads in a funnel, but people you want to be around to build your community and business.
