Social Media Makeover!
Do you have a social media profile that positions you as a leader? Before someone does business with you, they WILL search for you online. If you create a social media profile that positions you as a leader and a professional, you will sign up more people and do more business. People want to work with someone they know, like, and trust. Your social media profile can show people that you are a professional, you’re friendly, you’re actively working, and you’re fun to be around.
Facebook is the easiest way for people to find you and learn about you. Here are 6 areas to check and adjust on your Facebook profile page to start attracting more prospects and teammates!
6 Tips to Create a Social Media Profile that Positions You as a Leader
These six tips refer to your personal Facebook profile. A business Facebook page, also called a fan page, is another tool, but not necessary to get started. Put together a strong personal profile first.
Tip #1 – Regarding Your Pictures In General
- When you create a social media profile, use your own pictures. Don’t use stock photos you found on google. People want to see YOU and your life.
- Your profile pictures should be of you, not a flower, your dog, or your child. Again, people want to know who they’re working with. It’s ok if you’re holding your dog or child, but it should be obvious who you are.
- Smile in your pictures. Even if you aren’t a smiley person, smile for the profile pictures. It makes you look more approachable and friendly.
Tip #2 – Your Profile Picture
- Use a clear, well-lit picture for your profile. Make sure it’s a good quality picture. If it’s dark or blurry, it looks unprofessional and people can’t see YOU. Again, people want to see your beautiful face!
- The profile picture on your social media profile should be of you. When people message you and interact with you, the picture should be of you, not your dog. If you’re in a business group, people want to see who they’re talking to, not your children.
- Smile!
Tip #3 – Your Banner
- Have a banner on your social media profile. Your banner should be a picture you took. One great thing about network marketing is you should HAVE and SHOW OFF your lifestyle — as in having a life! Share a fun location, event, or vacation spot. It will be even more powerful if it includes pictures of you, your family, or friends doing something fun.
- Your banner shouldn’t be company branded. When you’re new to network marketing, don’t splash your company name around everywhere. People don’t care. They want to know if you can help them, not what you’re selling. Position and brand yourself as someone who can solve their problems.
- Stay away from political and religion beliefs on your banner. Unless it’s your niche, this isn’t the place to share controversial issues. You’ll turn people off, even if they agree with you.
Tip #4 – The About Section
If someone is thinking about working with you, they will check out your about section. Here are some items to include in your about section:
- Your website. How can people find more information about you?
- Your contact information. How do they contact you for more information?
- Share your business facebook fan page, if you have one. Give people more ways to find out who you are and what you do.
- Don’t pitch. This isn’t the place to try to sign someone up. No one is going to sign up from a link and a pitch in your About section.
- Be professional. Again, no politics, religion, swearing, or other nonsense. You are a business person.
Tip #5 – Photos Posted on your Profile
- These should be pictures of you and your life. There’s no need to post stock photos from google. Post photos from your real life. If you don’t have any, start taking some! Go do something fun and take a picture. Create and share your lifestyle.
- Don’t include a bunch of drinking/drunk photos. That’s not professional and unless that’s the type of person you want to attract, it won’t help you find serious teammates for your business. Definitely have fun, but hopefully you aren’t always partying.
- Share pictures from your company events. This shows people you’re serious about your business, that you’re learning and growing, and that you’re taking action. When someone is looking to join a team or a leader they want someone who is in action.
- Take photos with your team. This is another opportunity for a prospect to see who they will be working with – not just you, but the rest of the team. It gives people an idea of the team culture and opens the door for conversation about what you do. Plus they’re fun!
Tip #6 – Your Posts
- Your social media profile posts should be positive, upbeat, funny, and/or educational. Text, videos, articles, blog posts, and pictures are all appropriate. Lifestyle posts, industry articles, company educational videos, and funny memes will get lots of interaction.
- The #1 thing not to post or do on social media is spam. Constantly sharing your sign-up link and asking people to join your team is spam. What value are you providing? You can’t just take, take, take. You have to give value first, then ask people for something. A good rule to follow is to post one promotional post for every 10 value posts. (A value post can be lifestyle, funny, educational, industry knowledge, etc). If you want to get better at this, read Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk.
- Don’t post controversial political and religious posts. Don’t post negative things that put down other people and their beliefs. When you’re running a business, these things don’t have a place in your public profile. Show people your personality, but don’t make them angry. If you post about politics or religion, keep it positive and acknowledge the other side. It’s ok to make 1-2 people mad, but not 50% of your prospects! This is an art and a science. Pay attention to the feedback you get and adjust your posts.
- Along the same lines, don’t say bad things about other companies or leaders. It’s tacky, negative, and unprofessional. Focus on the positive and how you can help others, not tearing people or companies down. If you must talk about it, do it privately. Your profile page is not the place for it.
- Don’t invite people to play games or post about them on your profile. It does not send a vibe that you are a serious business person. People get annoyed at game invitations. Don’t be that person.
